Recommended Study Order
The EPA separates certification by appliance type, while Core supplies the rules and vocabulary that carry across every path. This order keeps you from memorizing a recovery step before you understand why the rule exists.

Universal certification covers the equipment described by Type I, Type II, and Type III. The current technician-certification regulation requires test material from the Core group and every relevant technical group. EPA also notes that an open-book Core test cannot be used to earn Universal certification; confirm the current exam format with your approved testing organization before scheduling.
