by Type I, Type II, and Type III. The current regulation identifies Universal as the
certification for people who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of all equipment
described by those three types. It also requires certification tests to draw from the
Core group and each relevant technical group.

What the Four Sections Test
Core: the shared foundation
Environmental impacts, Clean Air Act rules, refrigerant families, the venting prohibition, recovery terms, dehydration, cylinders, safety, and shipping.
Leak detection, liquid and vapor recovery, evacuation decisions, charging, noncondensables, system components, and service safety.
Type III: low pressure
Chillers operating in a vacuum, purge units, leak testing, water-freezing risk, recovery sequence, evacuation, and vapor-first recharging.

Answering before classifying the appliance
Pause first: small appliance, high pressure, or low pressure? The same service word can lead to a different procedure in each category.
Treating Core as a warm-up
Core is a required group, not filler. Terms such as recover, recycle, reclaim, and de minimis release control many later answers.
Remembering a number without its condition
Recovery requirements may depend on appliance type, charge, leak condition, repair type, compressor condition, and equipment manufacture date.
