Official EPA 608 Resources
608 Study Buddy is a practice tool, not an official source. The links below point to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other authoritative references. When the rules matter — for a job, an inspection, or final exam preparation — always go to the official material. This page is here so you can find it quickly.
For our own plain-language walk-through of the regulation, see the EPA Section 608 regulation guide.
The Regulation Itself
- 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F — the federal regulation that governs refrigerant recovery, recycling, leak repair, and technician certification. Read the current official text on the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations at ecfr.gov.
- Clean Air Act, Section 608 — the section of the Clean Air Act that authorizes the refrigerant management program.
EPA Section 608 Program Pages
- EPA Section 608 Technician Certification — the main hub for the certification program.
- Stationary Refrigeration Leak Repair Requirements — official detail on leak rates, repair timelines, and verification.
- Regulatory Updates to the Section 608 Refrigerant Management Regulations — a running summary of rule changes.
HFC Phasedown and the AIM Act
- Reducing Use of HFCs — EPA's hub for the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act.
- Frequent Questions on the HFC Phasedown — plain answers about the phasedown program.
- Regulatory Actions for Technology Transitions — the rules limiting refrigerant GWP in new equipment.
Taking the Exam
- EPA-approved certifying organizations — the EPA does not give the exam itself. It is administered by approved organizations. The EPA Section 608 page above links the current list of approved certifying programs, where you can find exam formats, fees, and scheduling.
Refrigerant Safety
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS) — always review the SDS for the specific refrigerant you are handling, available from the refrigerant manufacturer.
- A2L refrigerant safety — for newer mildly flammable refrigerants, follow the equipment manufacturer's service literature and current safety standards. See our AIM Act guide for background.
