About 608 Study Buddy
608 Study Buddy is a free practice tool for HVAC students, apprentices, and working technicians preparing for the EPA Section 608 certification exam. It started as a personal study project and grew into a full practice app with Core, Type I, Type II, Type III, and Universal practice exams, smart practice, quick drills, missed-question review, and local progress tracking.
The goal is simple: make repeat practice easy and a little less boring. Section 608 is a memory-heavy exam, and most people pass it by drilling questions until the rules stick. This site is built around short sessions, immediate feedback, and focused review of the questions you actually get wrong.
Who Writes This Site
608 Study Buddy is built and maintained by an EPA Section 608 certified technician with hands-on refrigerant experience. That experience is not just classroom theory. It includes practical refrigeration service work — recovering and charging refrigerant, evacuating systems with a vacuum pump, and working with gauges, recovery equipment, and leak-detection tools.
That background shapes how the questions and explanations are written. The aim is to explain why an answer is correct in plain language a technician would actually use, instead of just listing the right letter. When a question depends on appliance type, refrigerant pressure, or whether a compressor is running, the explanation tries to make that reasoning clear.
How the Content Is Made
The practice questions are written and reviewed against publicly available EPA Section 608 regulatory material and standard HVAC reference knowledge. Questions are grouped into the same four sections used by the real certification program, so practice maps directly to the exam structure. Explanations are original and written specifically for this site.
Section 608 rules do change over time. When something is updated by the EPA, the affected questions and study guides are reviewed and corrected. If you spot a question or explanation that looks out of date or wrong, please report it through the Contact page so it can be checked.
What This Site Is Not
608 Study Buddy is an independent study tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It is not the official exam, and a good practice score does not guarantee a passing score on the real certification test. Always confirm current rules and procedures with official EPA materials and your testing provider before exam day.
